Abernathy Elementary School Home

My name is Joanna Fullingim, and I am honored to begin my third year as Principal of AES. I’m a proud graduate of Texas Tech University, where I earned both my Bachelor of Science and Master’s in Education. This year marks my 20th in education, including nine years as a classroom teacher, five years as a counselor, three years as assistant principal, and now three wonderful years serving as principal.

My husband, Austin, is a Petersburg native, and we returned to West Texas in 2012 to raise our family. We are blessed with three daughters—Evie (12), Ellis (8), and Emersyn (5)—who certainly keep us on our toes and bring so much joy to our lives.

At AES, our mission is to create a learning environment where every student feels loved, supported, and challenged to grow. We believe that when students know they are cared for, learning comes naturally and meaningfully. Please know that we are here to support both students and families every step of the way. Never hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, or ideas.
